4 Days Virunga Gorillas and Nyiragongo Safari

Day 1: Arrival in Goma – Transfer to Virunga National Park

After a short briefing, tourists are transferred in a comfortable vehicle to Virunga National Park, passing beautiful views of Lake Kivu, rolling hills and volcanic silhouettes. Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Virunga National Park

After an early breakfast, tourists head to the Virunga headquarters where experienced rangers provide a detailed briefing about gorilla trekking procedures and conservation guidelines. The trek leads deep into the forest where tourists navigate through thick vegetation in search of a habituated gorilla family. The moment they encounter the gorillas is truly breathtaking as tourists observe their behavior, interactions and powerful yet gentle nature. After spending an hour with them, tourists return to the lodge for lunch and a restful afternoon. Optional activities include visiting the Senkwekwe Gorilla Orphanage or enjoying scenic forest trails around the lodge.

Day 3: Nyiragongo Volcano Hike and Summit Overnight Stay

Tourists start the day with breakfast before being transferred to the Kibati ranger post for the Nyiragongo volcano hike. The climb begins through lush forest and gradually shifts to volcanic rock terrain as tourists ascend the breathtaking mountain. Along the way, rangers share insights about the regions geology, wildlife and volcanic history. Upon reaching the summit, the spectacular lava lake appears, glowing with vivid red and orange hues that illuminate the night sky. Tourists settle into their summit shelters and enjoy warm meals prepared by the mountain crew. The night at the crater rim is a once in a lifetime experience offering unmatched views of the fiery lava lake.

Day 4: Descend From Nyiragongo – Transfer to Goma for Departure

After an early breakfast at the summit, tourists begin the descent, taking in the sweeping views of Virunga National Park and the surrounding landscapes. The descent is relatively faster and offers plenty of opportunities to appreciate the unique volcanic environment. Upon arriving at the base, tourists are met by their guide and transferred back to Goma where they may enjoy lunch or brief shopping depending on their departure schedule. They are later dropped off at Goma International Airport as the unforgettable Virunga experience comes to an end.
