Day 1: Kigali – Volcanoes National Park – Gorilla Tracking Experience – Kigali Return

Your gorilla tracking adventure begins early in the morning as your professional guide from Unique Africa Ventures picks you up from your Kigali hotel or airport in a high-end 4×4 safari vehicle. You will enjoy a scenic two-and-a-half-hour drive through Rwanda’s picturesque countryside, dotted with rolling hills, tea plantations, and charming local villages. Upon arrival at Volcanoes National Park headquarters in Kinigi, you will be welcomed with freshly brewed Rwandan coffee as you attend a short briefing on gorilla tracking etiquette and safety.

After being assigned to a specific gorilla family, you will embark on a guided trek through the misty rainforest, accompanied by experienced rangers and porters. The walk may take between one and four hours depending on the gorilla family’s location, but every step offers a chance to admire Rwanda’s pristine nature, from colorful birds to exotic plant species. Once you locate the gorilla family, you will spend an unforgettable hour observing them interact, play, and feed in their natural habitat. The experience of standing a few meters away from these gentle giants, with their soulful eyes and striking resemblance to humans, is both humbling and awe-inspiring.

After the trek, you will enjoy a sumptuous lunch at one of the luxurious lodges overlooking the Virunga Volcanoes. The afternoon allows time for relaxation and reflection, perhaps with a glass of fine wine as you take in the sweeping views. Later, you will be driven back to Kigali, arriving in the evening where you can be dropped off at your hotel or the airport depending on your schedule. This luxurious one-day experience offers an intimate glimpse into Rwanda’s rich biodiversity and a memory that will last a lifetime.
